Walk through your home with a video camera or take regular photos. For big ticket items, take a photo of the seriel numbers. Keep a copy of these records in a safe place away from your home, like a safe deposit box.

If a claim situation presents itself in your home, like a tree falling through your window, action must be taken immediatly. The first thing you should do is prevent further damage from happening. After the situation is stabalized, call your company to report the claim. Do not make the needed repairs until the company has had a chance to inspect the damage, or the adjuster tells you to got ahead.
